McIntosh shines for Auckland

Tim McIntosh has led Auckland to a four wicket win against Wellington in the Provincial A tournament.

Auckland restrained Wellington to 217 and completed a sensible batting display to take the points against the lads from the capital.

Wellington opted to bat first and were in trouble early on. At 51 for five Wellington looked like they might struggle to reach triple figures, but a strong performance from the middle and lower order made sure that the chase would be an interesting one.

Mark Houghton was the top scorer for Wellington as he made a crucial 53 from 77. He found help from the unlikely source of Kuggeleijn  - the number ten batsmen – who made 39.

It was a combined effort by the Auckland bowlers, but Bhupinder Singh claimed best figures of three for 25 from ten.
In reply one man stole the show.

Tim McIntosh had failed in his previous two innings in the tournament, but today would be different for the former BLACKCAP’s opener.

McIntosh played throughout the innings and made a brilliant century to see Auckland to victory. His 108 came off 110 balls and included 16 fours and one six.

He lost five partners along the way, but still managed to anchor Auckland to a four wicket win after 38.2 overs.
