Canterbury Magicians took initial honours with an eight-wicket win in their top-of-the-table women's Action Twenty20 cricket clash with Wellington in Upper Hutt today.
Some tight Canterbury bowling restricted Wellington to 123 for nine off 20 overs, with only Lucy Doolan's 22 and Liz Perry's 20 saving real embarrassment.
Even so, the highest score came from 26 extras, as Erin Bermingham, Kelly Anderson and Frances Mackay picked up two wickets apiece with some miserly bowling.
Canterbury cruised home for a comfortable win, reaching 127 for two in 18.1 overs, aided in no small part by a well-paced unbeaten 52 from captain Amy Satterthwaite.
