Amy Satterthwaite’s Canterbury Magicians remain the only unbeaten side in the One-Day comp after Erin Bermingham’s blazing second limited overs century helped make it four from four in the New Zealand domestic 50-over contest.
Points table after round four
Batting at five, WHITE FERN Erin Bermingham’s unbeaten 125 off 112 balls (15 fours, two sixes) at Alexandra’s Molyneux Park was her white-ball career-best and just the second ton of her Canterbury one-day career, topping a previous best effort of 109 in 2014/15.
Moreover, it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Magicians, who were 71/3 after a rare shaky start, Frances Mackay retiring hurt on one, fellow opener Satterthwaite bowled by England’s Beth Langston on two, first drop Kate Broadmore gone for just 14.
Capably assisted by Hayley Jensen (above; 65 off 79) in a whopping 167-run stand for the fourth wicket — a new national record against allcomers in domestic women’s One-Day cricket, Bermingham’s aggressive knock helped the Magicians post 251/5.
Satterthwaite had opted to bat first, Otago Sparks captain Suzie Bates later responding with the bat herself, but falling just two runs short of a century of her own when she was bowled by Broadmore (4-14) in the 37th over.
Bates had continued her fine touch, a dozen boundaries included in her calm and controlled 123-ball innings.
The problem for Bates had been a lack of early support, her innings standing out like a beacon for the hosts as the rest of her side fell away to be all out for 210 in the penultimate over, a victory for the Magicians to the tune of 41 runs.
