Magicians finish third after beating Sparks

The Canterbury Magicians have notched up their second consecutive Women’s One-Day win over the Otago Sparks at Logan Park in Dunedin.

The match was reduced to 25 overs per side after a wet morning delayed the start of play.

Otago put on 122 batting first with Megan Kane top scoring with 39 off 38 deliveries including four boundaries and a six.

The wickets were shared between the Canterbury bowlers with eighteen year old Hayley Jensen having the best return of two for 19 off five overs.

The run chase was led by Frankie Mackay who made 39 at the top of the order.  Fellow opener Michelle Mitchell was next best with 24 as the pair laid the foundation with a 53 run opening stand.

Captain Amy Satterthwaite contributed 23 with Erin Bermingham finishing things off with a brisk 17 off 14 deliveries to hand the visitors a five wicket win.

English international Claire Taylor was the stand out performer for the Sparks taking four for 14 in a losing cause.

The result sees the Canterbury Magicians finish their campaign in third spot with the Otago Sparks propping up the bottom of the table.
