Magicians do the business - reach final

The Canterbury Magicians posted their spot in the Women’s One Day final with a resounding eight wicket victory over the Central Hinds at Mainpower Oval, Rangiora.

Needing a victory to secure second, the Magicians never looked in doubt, as they restricted the Hinds to 124 for eight from their 50 overs. It wasn’t a problem for the home side’s batsmen, surpassing the total in the 29th over.

Frances Mackay (16) and Meg Kendal (18) made starts, but it was the third wicket partnership between captain Amy Satterthwaite (45*) and recent centurion Hayley Jensen (35*) which ended the encounter.

The pair put on an unbeaten 69 and ensured their side the all-important points.

Earlier, it had been the bowlers who had done the job, with three players getting two wickets apiece and a couple of run outs also helping the cause.

White Fern Kate Broadmore put up the most resistance with 26, while four others also made starts but failed to go on.

The Magicians showed their ruthless streak and put their foot on the throat, limiting the Hinds to a score well below 150.

It did the job for them though, as they secured their second final spot heading into next weekend.
