The Canterbury Magicians pulled off a final ball victory over the Auckland Hearts to claim the Women’s Domestic One Day Final in the most dramatic of circumstances at Melville Park, Auckland.
Not only was it the final ball, but also the last wicket in which they achieved the triumph. Having dismissed the Hearts for 191 after 48.3 overs, the Magicians edged their way towards the target and found success off the final ball. 
It had looked as if the visitors were cruising early on at 67 without loss, with even the wicket of Frances Mackay for 38 not taking away the Magician’s momentum.
Behind a further 26 from Meg Kendal and 44 from Amy Satterthwaite the Magicians were in full control at 118 for two.
However, with another 60 needed for victory both established batsmen had been dismissed – It started somewhat of a collapse, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals.
All-rounder Erin Bermingham was the only one to really produce anything of note after that, making an absolutely crucial 35 to bring her side within reach of victory.
With five balls remaining the Magicians needed four to win, but the departure of Bermingham the very next ball as well as the immediate dismissal of Lea Tahuhu gave the home side renewed hope.
However despite losing another wicket off the penultimate ball, the Magicians did enough on the final delivery to surpass the total and claim the title.
It was edge of your seat stuff and the Hearts fought right to the very end. MeganTremaine did her level best with three wickets, while Paula Gruber and Georgia Guy claimed two apiece.
Earlier, the opening pair of Victoria Lind and Sam Curtis had provided the bulk of the runs for the hosts.
The pair took their side through to 88 without loss, before Lind eventually succumbed for 46.
Maddy Green then joined Curtis to take their side past 100, before Katie Perkins came in and added a helpful 27 to the total.
However, following the number four’s dismissal the Hearts were unable to form any valuable partnerships and they were eventually dismissed just short of the 200 mark – a disappointing finish considering their start.
Lea Tahuhu was devastating with the ball and finished with match-changing figures of four for 34 from 9.3 overs.
The result comes as a surprise, with the Hearts having been the form side for almost all of the competition. The Magicians though will be ecstatic with the outcome, regaining the title which they last won in the 2010-11 season.
