Magician's Win State League Twenty20 Thriller By One Wicket Against Hearts

The State Canterbury Wizards won by scoring a single of the last ball of the match to win by one wicket in a thrilling Twenty20 match against the State Auckland Hearts.

Canterbury very nearly through the game away with four runouts and some poor shot selection, going from 102 for three to be 142 for nine in their pursuit of 150.

It was the loss of Maria Fahey for a well crafted 52 that sparked a collapse and left the Magicians them needing six off the last over.

Number nine batsman, Rowan Milburn, faced up needing five runs from five balls for victory. Her second shot went for four to level the score and then faced three dot balls.  She managed squeeze a singe off the final ball to win the match.

Prashilla Mistry, who had earlier hit the Cantebury attack around the park, making 70 off 50 balls, had the unenvialble task of bowling the final over.

Auckland will be disappointed that they couldn’t capitalise on the solid start put on by Mistry and Megan Murphy who made a quick fire 25.

Beth McNeill was the pick of the Canterbury bowlers conceding only 22 runs and picking up the valuable wicket of Mistry.

Natalee Scripps was on song for the Hearts returning figures of one for 19 off her four and assisted with two run outs.

The result puts Canterbury into outright second after four rounds with Auckland remaining one spot off the bottom in fifth place.
