Hearts win tight contest

The Auckland Hearts secured a Duckworth/Lewis calculated three run victory after persistent rain meant play could not continue in their match against the Northern Spirit at Colin Maiden Park, Auckland.

A 43 run opening stand between Victoria Lind and Michelle Lynch followed by a second wicket partnership of 53 between Lynch and Megan Tremaine set up the useful total off 136 off their full 20 overs.

Lynch came out blazing, hitting her way to 31 off 21 balls.  Lind, who also made 31, went at a more pedestrian pace, using 35 deliveries.

Spirit left-armer Morna Nielsen picked up three wickets but leaked 30 runs off her four overs.

In reply, openers Kate Pulford and Natalie Dodd got the visitors off to a belting start with the first 57 runs coming in just 6.5 overs.

Dodd struck 28 off 22 with Pulford lashing 30 off 23 but her dismissal sparked a collapse that saw them lose four wickets for 14 runs.

Rain ended play with the Sparks stranded on 82 runs and Duckworth/Lewis having them short of their target.
