The Auckland Hearts have leaped eight points clear on the Women’s One-Day domestic competition points table, with a 47 run win over the Central Hinds at Queen Elizabeth Park, Masterton.
A fine display from the top-order saw the Hearts post 222 for eight in the first innings, before holding the Hinds to 175 for nine to secure the victory.
Opener Eimear Richardson was a soldier for the Hinds in their pursuit, but lost too many partners along the way to truly threaten the Hearts’ total.
She scored 74 from 100 balls to take her side to 127 for five after 36 overs. Sara McGlashan chipped in with 25, but the rest of the top-order failed to make a significant contribution.
There was a late flurry from the tail, but it was too little too late as the Hearts bowling attack put the Hinds to the sword.
Four bowlers picked up two wickets apiece, with Georgia Guy arguably most influential with the key wickets of Richardson and McGlashan.
Earlier the top four had done all the hard work for the visitors.
Victoria Lind remains one of the most consistent batsmen in the competition having made yet another 50 with 62. Alongside fellow opener Sam Curtis (20), they put on 55 for the opening partnership.
Their efforts were followed up by Maddy Green and Katie Perkins, who together took their side to a challenging total. Green reached her 50 from 67 balls, while Perkins played sensibly for her 41 from 45.
As the pair looked to increase the run-rate, both fell in quick succession. It triggered a collapse for the Hearts, who were unable capitalise on their strong start.
It would, however, end up being enough though, as they eased their way to their fourth straight victory in the One-Day competition.
