The England women’s cricket team have once again shown their class, this time in the Twenty20 format, by beating the New Zealand Emerging Player’s XI by eight wickets at Lincoln University today.
The Emerging XI won the toss and opted to bat first, but struggled against a lethal English bowling attack. Their final total of 86 was far too few and England knocked it off with 7.2 overs in hand.
The top order didn’t fire for the Emerging XI and the team soon found themselves in the precarious position of 21 for five. Luckily a partnership between Kate Broadmore and Victoria Abbott kept things respectable as they took the Emerging XI to a final total of 86 for six.
Broadmore managed 18, while Abbott top-scored with an unbeaten 27.
In reply England lost opener Laura Marsh cheaply for nine, but soon found a winning partnership between Sarah Taylor and Lydia Greenway.
Taylor top-scored with an unbeaten 43 and Greenway also chipped in with 14 not out as the English made light work of the chase to finish the game with eight wickets and 7.2 overs to spare.
Only Georgia Guy made any head road from the Emerging XI, as she finished with figures of two for 14 from three.
It was another commanding performance from the English, who will play their last warm-up Twenty20 against the Emerging XI tomorrow.
