England have smashed the NZ Women's Emerging Players XI by 181 runs in their first warm-up match in Lincoln.
Batting first, the English smashed a staggering 292 for nine from their 50 overs and then proceeded to tear through the bowling line-up to dismiss the Emerging Players XI for just 111.
Not surprisingly the star for the English side was their Captain Charlotte Edwards who opened the innings and crunched an unbeaten 123 from 104 balls. She then retired to give others a chance at the crease.
Around her though her team mates could only manage starts, with Arran Brindle the next best with 33.
In the end they fell eight runs short of 300 and nine wickets down.
Deanna Dougherty was the most successful bowler of the Emerging Players XI and picked up three wickets for 40 runs in eight overs.
In reply the Emerging XI got off to a solid start with Maddy Green and Anna Peterson taking their side to 63 for two.
Unfortunately that was as good as it for them.
After playing some beautiful shots off her pads, Peterson was dismissed for 42 and the rest of the team capitulated.
England’s Anya Shrubsole ripped through the batting line-up and finished with the sensational figures of five for five off 5.1 overs.
In the end the Emerging XI finished 111 all out, still 182 runs away from victory.
It was a convincing win for England who sent a massive message to the White Ferns ahead of their series starting later this month.
