Christchurch Boys make a statement

Christchurch Boys’ High School posted a convincing six wicket victory over St Peter’s School, having restricted their opponents to 120 all out in the first innings.

Despite a couple of late wickets, the home side never looked in doubt in their reply and secured first round points after 18.4 overs.

St Peters had struggled with the bat thanks to a brilliant display with the ball from Morgan Jeffery, who ended with figures of five for 31 from 10 overs. He proved too hard to handle for many of the St Peter’s batsmen, with four of his dismissals being clean bowled.

Eddie Walker was the best of the batsman with a resilient 35 from 79 deliveries.

Christchurch Boys made quick work of the chase and wrapped up the match inside 20 overs. Leading the charge was captain David Wakefield, who saw out the match with an unbeaten 34. Daniel Stanley also chipped in with 25, while Anthony Burnett contributed 21.

ST PETER’S SCHOOL 120 all out 46.3 overs (E Walker 35; M Jeffery 5-31) LOST to CHRISTCHURCH BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL 122-4 18.4 overs all out (D Wakefield 34*, D Stanley 25)
