Canterbury collected their second win of the Provincial A tournament in the seventh round, beating Central Districts by 37 runs in Lincoln.
A combined effort with the bat saw Canterbury post 155 for six from their 20 overs, with Brent Findley top scoring with 45. Central’s response was timid, with David Meiring (44) and Roald Badenhorst (28) the only ones to really feature as their side was dismissed for 118 off 19.3 overs.
The pursuit got off to a bad start when Central were reduced to eight for two. It only got marginally better, with Meiring playing his strokes nicely, but also forced to watch partners at the other end tumble cheaply.
He eventually found some support in Badenhorst, with the pair putting on 55 for the fourth wicket. However Badenhorst’s demise in the 13th over all but spelt the end of Central’s efforts as Meiring and the rest of the side were rolled in quick fashion.
Three players picked up two wickets each for the hosts, while two run-outs also played a big part in limiting their opponents.
Earlier, five players had scored 17 or more for Canterbury to surpass the 150 mark. Opener Keryn Ambler made 31 from 25, while Todd Astle chipped in with 23 from 18.
Best of the lot though was Brent Findlay, who hit two fours and a six on his way to 45. Alongside a couple of other small cameos it gave Canterbury a decent score to defend, setting up the win.
