Canterbury merciless against Sparks

The Canterbury Magicians walked all over the Otago Sparks to record a 10 wicket win in the final round of the Action Cricket Cup.

Otago's decision to bat first backfired big time as they crumbled to seventy all out. Canterbury openers Frances Mackay and Mandi Godliman made light work of it to give the Magicians the most convincing of wins.

Otago's only real time of comfort at the crease was when Lisa Grant (33) and Susie Burrows (18) were together in the middle. Without Captain Suzie bates playing the Spark's looked like a rudderless ship and capitulated with the dismissals of Grant and Burrows.

The next highest score was four, unless extras were included which contributed 11 to their total.

In the end Otago were all out in the 37th over for just 70.

All of the Magician's bowlers were having a great time of things, but best of the lot was Mackay who finished with figures of three for 12 from six overs.

It was going to take a miracle for Otago to have any hope and it didn't come.

Openers Mackay (36*) and Godliman (26*) finished off things after just 16 overs to complete the embarrassment for Otago.

It won't be the season ending game Otago had been hoping for, but for Canterbury it's a handy momentum builder for next week's final.
