Canterbury ease past Auckland

Canterbury have completed an easy run chase to beat Auckland by six wickets in the Provincial A tournament being held at Lincoln.

Canterbury won the toss and put Auckland in to bat. It turned out to be the right decision, as they ripped through the heart of their rivals batting line-up early.

At 25 for nine it looked like the game could be finished before lunch time, but a slight revival took place thanks to the middle and lower order.

Marc Ellison (47) top scored for the Aucklanders and found help from wicket-keeper Cameron Fletcher who finished not out on 42.

The run rate had suffered with the regular loss of wickets and at the end of 50 overs Auckland had posted a meagre 145 for nine.

Willie Lonsdale was the best of the bowlers for Canterbury as he helped to cripple Auckland with figures of four for 20 from nine overs.

Canterbury went about the run chase in sensible fashion and despite losing four wickets, made it look easy.

Cole McConchie anchored the innings with an unbeaten 45 and Keryn Ambler and Logan van Beek added 27 to effectively end the game.

In the 38th over Canterbury put Auckland out of their misery with six wickets and 12 overs to spare.
