Blaze back on track

With a blistering eight-wicket win over Northern Spirit in Whangarei, Wellington Blaze was back on track with another big win from round four of their 2016/17 One-Day campaign.

Scorecard

Spirit’s 213 for seven batting first was anchored by captain Natalie Dodd after being sent in by Blaze captain Liz Perry. Dodd would again prove the big wicket, sharing a solid 93-run opening stand with Katie Gurrey (43).

The home side struggled through to the close of their innings, however, Emma Fulbrook’s good weekend up north continuing as she picked up a career-best 3-56 off her 10.

Both Blaze openers scored half centuries in reply, WHITE FERN Rachel Priest reaching 50 off 42 balls and Eimear Richardson 62 off 77 with a back-to-back effort before they became the only wickets to fall in a torrid chase.

WHITE FERNS power pack Sophie Devine was at her aggressive best, picking up the baton from the openers to crunch her way to an unbeaten 75 off only 40 balls — including five fours and just as many sixes.

Devine and Blaze was after, and secured, a bonus point victory, all in just 29.1 spectacular overs.

All six teams will meet in Round Five in Lincoln on 28 December.
