BLACKCAPS blast way to series victory

Result: BLACKCAPS won by 95 runs

The BLACKCAPS have blasted their way to a 2-1 series victory in the ANZ Twenty20 series against Pakistan, winning the decider at Westpac Stadium by 95 runs.

Scorecard

Corey Anderson struck an unbeaten 82 to guide the BLACKCAPS to a substantial first-innings score of 196-5.

The allrounder then picked up two wickets and combined with Adam Milne and Grant Elliott (three wickets apiece) to bowl out Pakistan for just 101.

More than 16,000 people piled into the stadium for the final home Twenty20 of the summer, and Kane Williamson (33) and Martin Guptill (42) once again gave the BLACKCAPS the early momentum.

Their 57 run stand ended at six overs, but while Pakistan managed to pick up a couple of quick wickets, the home side would bounce back quickly.

Anderson took few risks on his way to a half-century off 27 balls, and went on to finish the innings with four sixes and six fours under his belt.

It left Pakistan with a large task ahead and when early wickets fell, their hopes quickly diminished.

Boult was the first to strike, getting Mohammad Hafeez with the first ball of the second over. That started an early downhill slide, with a wicket from Anderson and run out from Mitchell Santner taking Pakistan to 15-3.

Sarfraz Ahmed fought hard with a valiant 41, but regular wickets falling all but extinguished the visitor’s hopes inside the opening 10 overs.

Elliott and Boult finished things off in the 17th over to secure the victory and give the BLACKCAPS the series.

The ODI series begins on Monday at the Basin Reserve.
