The Otago Sparks have moved into second place following an impressive 49 run win in the 50-over competition against the Wellington Blaze at Lincoln Green, Lincoln.
After opting to bat, Otago scored an imposing 332 for four in their 50-overs and then bowled out Wellington for 283.
Otago’s total was built around a sparkling century from captain Suzie Bates who carved 164 not out.
Bates hit nine boundaries and one sixes in her 140-ball knock, while opener Nicole Bolton smashed nine boundaries in her innings of 79.
The Wellington batsmen gave the total a reasonable nudge with Suzie McDonald reaching 50, Michelle Bunkall hitting 74 and Thamsyn Newton making 43 not out.
Spinner Emma Campbell was Otago’s best bowler with four for 43.
