Q&A with Dai Henwood

Which international bowler would you fancy your chances against?
I would love to face Monty Panesar because he always looks so scared every time he plays cricket. I would also like to sledge him for the ridiculous amount of times he appeals. I hit is for four mate, you are not going to get an L.B.W on that.

You’re a big technology fan, what cricket apps and / or gadgets do you use?
The Cric info app is essential on my iPad. Cricket is the perfect game to browse stats and figures while the game is being played. Also Twitter is great to have open. It makes watching the game from your couch far more social. I am a massive supporter of Australian cricket (after New Zealand of course) so when the Ashes are on I like baiting the whinging English fans cheering on their pasty boring team.

We hear you’re a keen social cricketer – what’s your most memorable wicket?
I love social cricket and bring quite a bit of intensity. One on my strongest memories is the  one and only in-swinging yorker I have bowled. It was two seasons ago, I jogged in to bowl with the wind in my face. The ball cannoned out of my hand swinging a foot and heading for middle stump. I knew then it was the best ball I had ever bowled. The batsman jammed his bat down and dug it out, with an edge that got him two runs. That was a bummer, however I got him caught behind the next ball.

Are comedians natural sledgers?
Yes, although a lot of my sledging is non sensical like when I support my bowlers "You have put on the dire straights, you have poured the pinot gris, now it is time to seal the deal"

What’s your favourite ground to watch cricket at and why?
The Basin Reserve, I grew up in Wellington and Dad used to take me there. I remember seeing Hadlee take his 300th wicket in 1986 when he got Border LBW. When there was a break in the cricket we could all run out and play on the field. Now whenever I am in Wellington over the summer I try and take in a game there. It has to be the home of NZ cricket

What’s the first thing you pack for a day at the cricket?
My box, especially as a spectator

Who’s your all-time favourite BLACKCAP bowler and why?
Murphy Logo Su'a, he is the great under achiever. His 7 wickets against Pakistan in 1992/93 were sublime.
